Famous Foodies Rant - Round Two
After the success of their Speakers’ Corner at the Real Food Festival, Rude Health are taking their rants on the road again and heading west for the Abergavenny Food Festival. The Rude Health gang will be joined by celebrated chefs, food writers and producers as they too step onto the hay bale and up to the microphone to rant. Come to the Castle and listen on Saturday 19th September and Sunday 20th September between 12noon - 1pm, and again at 3pm - 4pm.
First up will be Rude Health’s own relentless ranter Nick Barnard, followed by the likes of The Hardwick’s Stephen Terry and fellow local foodie Shaun Hill, of The Walnut Tree.
Find out if there’s a dragon-like side to Levi Roots whilst baker extraordinaire Richard Bertinet kneads out some of his bugbears. Rare Tea lady Henrietta Lovell, straight-talking Alison Lea-Wilson from Halen Môn, the Whitechapel Gallery’s feted “no-fuss” chef Maria Eliaand the passionate Italian cookery writer Laura Santtini will show that the girls have plenty to rant about too.
After a terrific (if controversial) tirade against Elizabeth David at Real Food, seasoned ranter and editor of new food magazine Fire and Knives, Tim Hayward will be back freshly riled and ready to let off steam. Also chalked up to appear are spicy ranters Cyrus Todiwala MBE and Richard Ehrlich who will be revealing what really gets them hot under the collar. We can see the sparks flying already. It’s sure to be a spectacle - as long as Nick relinquishes the hay bale; we’ve got a cattle prong just in case!*
Hecklers welcome. The more vocal the better.
And if you’re not able make it to the Abergavenny Food Festival the rants will be recorded and uploaded to the Rude Health website - http://www.rudehealth.com/ - where you can currently find all of the Real Food rants, including those by Mexican-food marvel Thomasina Miers, author-blogger Simon Majumdar and St John restaurateur Trevor Gulliver, a prince amongst ranters.
* Cattle prong or similar poking device will not be used on anyone apart from Nick - he’sused to it.
